Whats the election to do with me!!

As a young Londoners we will not patronise you to suggest we are the first to discuss the mayoral election with you or that this is first time you’ve heard about it, but what we would like to discuss is why you should care/ how will effect you when your not allowed to VOTE!!

Here are some of the reasons we suggest!!

Employment and Economic Development

-          What will be done to in attempt to decrease Youth unemployment in London which is currently at a all time high

-          Will the apprentice scheme set up for the Olympic continue pass 2012.

Cultural and Tourism

What will be done to increase of community activities for family

-          What will be done to change the negative reputation of young Londoners after the 2011 riots which we know from arrest statics it was not majority led by young people.

Transport and Environment

-          will transport remain free for young people!!!

-          What can be done to support your transports needs when you’re not in training or education and looking for a job should you not get transport support.

Crime and Policing

-          Over the last five years Knife crime has a steady rise of rise in Knife crime, who will this change.

-          Will there be enough police who will act in the best interest of the local community to police London during the Olympics.

-

Social Development

- with Austerity cut is full effect the gap between rich and poor is widening, which is affecting young peoples social mobility, what will be done.

- With the de-scaling of connexions how will the major to ensure that young people will be engaged.

-Since the 2011 riots there has been a rise of 8% increase in juvenile incarceration and an 8.7 drop in university applications, what will be done.

With all that information we can still hear you asking what can I do ‘I have no vote, if you are not 18 or over so what can I do…’

  1. You will be able to vote shortly and you must remember what you were promised…
  2. Having the vote is not your only democratic RIGHT you can always contact candidate and pose your questions and when the new Major is elected you have every right to ask them what they are doing and question their actions, for more information check out www.uprise.org.uk

Book suggestion for the Easter Holiday

Well everyone should be on half term by now  and it looks like we missed the sun, never mind CCA are here as usual to give you a help in hand with some entertainment; to do so we have suggested the following books for your consumption this Easter Holiday.

1.       We have all heard how the film has been a smash and many of  you have properly seen it ‘Hunger Games’. We suggest that read the book so that you can have a ‘real’ opinion on the delivery of the film and see which one is really the best ‘Book’ or ‘Film’.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Hunger-Games-Trilogy-Box/dp/1407130293/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1333559348&sr=1-1

2.       For all those who don’t fancy something main stream you should check out the winner of 2011 Coreltta Scott King Awards ‘One Crazy Summer’ and embark on a journey with Delphine to better understand her past to ensure she has a future.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crazy-Summer-Historical-Fiction-Awards/dp/0060760885/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1333559306&sr=1-2

3.       And finally we had to suggest a Classic ‘Lord of the Flies’ by William Golding, this book allows you to become shipwrecked and see exactly what a group of boys will do when they have been left alone for too long.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lord-Flies-William-Golding/dp/0571191479/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1333559211&sr=1-1

Have a read and if you’ve got time right a quick book review or make a recommendation.

P.S. checks out your local library before you make any purchases

Happy reading,

CCA

Surprise Surprise!

On Tuesday 20th March 2012 Chuck Venn surprised the young people who attend CCA’s St Marys afterschool drama club, when he introduced himself as their surprise tutor.

After the excitement settled the young people got to work showing he wasn’t the only professional in the house, showing him their improvisation skills, making in an enjoyable class for all.

For Chucky it was a great opportunity to meet the young people he supports as the Concrete Canvas Arts Patron.

Street Talk had a parliamentary Appearance!!!

The street talk project had been running over the last 3 months.

We at CCA have successfully screened over 70 young people making the opinion of those between 11-24 on Drugs and their Misuse count!

On Friday 9th March 2012 South Kilburn played host to Lord Henley, who visited Street talk associated organisations including OK Club and ourselves Concrete Canvas Arts.

The meeting was a great opportunity for him to meet the young people on the programme and and see how the it works first hand when he was  screened by one of CCA’s Street Talk out-reach worker, Marlene Mbakabale Mayele, we can not share his answer because it completely confidential, but he got a clear understanding of how it works.

Tanya Samuel’s OBE, CEO of CCA, took the opportunity to articulate key issues which are currently affecting young people and the local third sector, and praised collaborative working in times of pressed resources and that we can still be active in providing opportunities for local issue to be brought to the National Agenda.

The Brits

The Brits, The Brits, did you stay up and watch, were you been inspired or were you in the audience with Rihanna and all her paint. Let us know at CCA what you thought, cause this is what we discussed….

How could they …. Cut her short … the current Queen of the Brits Adele, no respect for the Tottenham Las, even with Best British Female Artist and the accolade of Best Album in her handbag they still shuffled her off the stage … not a good look … tut tut.

However it wasn’t all bad or was it…. The future queen of the Brits got cut Emily Sande’s interview was cut due to time and replaced with her predecessor Jessie J … what was that about … and there was no surprise that Ed sheeran won best break through act but is it only CCA wondering were was wretch 32’s Nomination (s).

Leave a message about what you though of the Brits?
